Keith Johnson

MD

Dr. Keith Johnson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon whose practice includes both adult and pediatric orthopedic surgery. He specializes in total joint replacements and sports medicine. He has a special interest as well as extensive training and experience in advanced, cutting edge medical technologies such as hip arthroscopy, an evolving area of orthopedics designed to treat hip problems before they become arthritis. In addition, Dr. Johnson is highly skilled in MAKOplasty®, a robot-assisted technique for performing minimally invasive hip and/or partial knee replacements for the treatment of arthritis. He is trained in performing the direct anterior approach to hip replacements. This revolutionary technique allows for less pain, less time in the hospital, and faster time to walking normally.

Dr. Johnson received an academic scholarship to attend The University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He went on to earn his Medical Doctorate in 1998 from Meharry Medical College, where he finished in the top 10 of his class and was inducted into the AOA (Alpha Omega Alpha) Medical Honor Society. He then completed his Orthopedic Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio before returning to El Paso in 2003 to serve his community in private practice. He has been a team physician for the UTEP Miners Athletic Department, and has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at University Medical Center and Texas Tech University Medical School in El Paso, where he enjoys teaching the next generation of surgeons. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the immediate past Chief of Staff at Sierra Providence East Medical Center, where he was integral in helping the hospital achieve its unprecedented honor of consecutive “Circle of Excellence” designations.

Dr. Johnson has also served at Sierra Medical Center and Providence Memorial Hospital both as a physician member of their Board of Directors as well as Vice Chief of Orthopedics. As recently as April of 2014 (this year) Dr. Keith was featured on the cover of the “Top Physicians Issue” of City Magazine.

Dr. Keith is a proud father of four beautiful children and a lucky husband to Dr. Tiffani Dobbins Johnson, who is a pediatrician. In his spare time Dr. Keith is an avid musician, playing multiple instruments and a songwriter who directed the “Voices of Faith Gospel Choir” at Notre Dame, and since returning home has been the lead musician for his father Bishop Richard Johnson’s church: Destiny Family Christian Center.
